Phoneix Contact Product - Surge Arresters

The innovations in the area of Transient Absorption Technology has led to the development of state-of-the-art “Flashtrab” Lightening Current Arresters & “Valvetrab” Surge Voltage Arresters for Power Supply Lines. Surge Protection Devices for Measurement, Control and Regulation signals include “Plugtrab” & “Termitrab”. The above, along with surge arresters for Data & Telecommunication signals provide the comprehensive Surge Protection Solution for all types of Electrical / Electronic installations.

The coupling of surge voltage can take place in a circuit due to various reasons primarily being:
Centina IndustriesInfluence of power supply lines over the data & signal lines.
Centina IndustriesErratic power supply from the source / sub station.
Centina IndustriesSwitching of loads (on-off of other equipment) in the premises.
Centina IndustriesDirect or Indirect Lightning strikes in the vicinity.

An effective surge voltage protection measure begins in the power supply with a multistage mains protection system i.e. Coarse, Medium and Fine (equipment) protection system. Besides, the data lines are the other “gates” through which surge voltages can penetrate into systems and cause destruction resulting in great financial burden in terms of both the losses of hardware as well as precious software.

Advantages of the Phoenix Contact Surge Protection devices:

Centina IndustriesOverload sign indication window
Centina IndustriesInternational Approval

This Concept is described by the “Active Energy Control” AEC
The advantages of Surge Arrester as follows :
Centina IndustriesNo blind spots
Centina IndustriesIndependent of the operating current
Centina IndustriesModular Construction
Centina IndustriesControlling energy levels increases the service life of all components used.
Centina IndustriesNo energy loss through coils

POWER SUPPLY PROTECTION
As the majority of the high energy surges enter our systems through power lines, it becomes all the more important for the multistage surge protection for a power supply system of any installation/facility.

FLASHTRAB : CLASS B Type Surge Arrester
First Stage (Class B Protection)
: The arrester Class B Type (as per VDE classification) –Lightning current arresters are based on the spark gap technology that operates by arc chopping principle with a rating for arresting induced lightening currents of upto 100kA for lightening current pulses of 10/350 µs. The protection level voltage available in such device is now as low as 0.9 kV. The protection can be termed as coarse protection and is installed at the main distribution panel. The test standards met by such arresters are according to IEC 61643-1 & VDE 0675 requirements.

VALVETRAB :CLASS C Type Surge Arrester
Second Stage (Class C Protection)
: The arrester Class B Type (as per VDE classification) –Lightning current arresters are based on the spark gap technology that operates by arc chopping principle with a rating for arresting induced lightening currents of upto 100kA for lightening current pulses of 10/350 µs. The protection level voltage available in such device is now as low as 0.9 kV. The protection can be termed as coarse protection and is installed at the main distribution panel. The test standards met by such arresters are according to IEC 61643-1 & VDE 0675 requirements.

Surge Protection for the Data / Communication lines
Third Stage : (Class D Protection)

Arrester Class D type (as per VDE Specification) is used for equipment protection and is placed immediately in front of the device to be protected.

PLUGTRAB (PT)
Plugtrab is a surge voltage protection device for 2/4 separate &Common (respectively) floating signal. The fine protection elements guarantee a low voltage threshold in conjunction with fast response times. These are two piece construction, consisting of a plug and a header. The plug can be connected & disconnected impedance – neutral and without interruption.

TERMITRAB (TT)
TERMITRAB (TT) is the non-pluggable option for the above application is also available within Din Rail mountable terminal block.

Surge protection directly on the measuring Sensor SURGETRAB
The S-PT… surge protective devices were developed specially for installation on measuring sensors. As housing, a hexagonal pipe with outer thread is used, which allows it to be screwed onto the electrical equipment to be protected. Different versions which the most common thread sizes are available. The other end of the pipe profile is fitted with a cable screw connection for the field – side signal line. When using a cable with an outer diameter of 6.5 mm to 9.5 mm, IP 67 protection is achieved with the cable screw connection.
